Firefox 59 beta adds home button assist functionality, better live streaming, and more

Mozilla pulled the trigger on a substantial redesign of Firefox a few months ago, but the devs haven't taken any time off the celebrate. the updates are still coming fast with v59 hitting the beta channel. This version adds quick access to Firefox search via the home button, revamped HLS video support, and a few more goodies.

Mozilla, in its infinite wisdom, has provided a full changelog for this release.

New

  • Added Firefox as an Assist App so users can start a search by long-pressing the home button
  • Improved user experience for HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) playback

Changed

  • Changed the location of Firefox Health Report from about:healthreport to about:telemetry
  • The "about:" page was removed. Use the "About Firefox" dialog instead.
  • Lock video full screen to landscape mode

The assist feature is probably the most interesting. You may not realize it, but you can change the home button's long-press trigger. It's Assistant by default on most devices now, but now Firefox can take over. Maybe you don't use Assistant but you use Firefox for most of your browsing. A long-press of the home button can bring up Firefox search. This release also includes a better implementation of HLS (HTTP live streaming) video support.

The new version is rolling out in the Play Store, but we've also got it on APK Mirror.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. Samsung Display retains its leadership It's pertinent to mention here that Samsung's Q1 market share is 6.6 percentage points lower than it was in the same period last year. Gear S3 frontier update patches major S Voice bug

Samsung released a much-requested update for the Gear S3 frontier on Wednesday. The upgrade has been designed to patch a major bug that resulted in S Voice crashing whenever it was toggled — and from what we can tell, it’s working. The glitch itself has been running riot since May, which is around the same time the device received a routine maintenance update , leading us to believe a faulty line of code was the reason S Voice was unable to run without breaking down. Some noticed that the performance of S Voice suffered when asking it to retrieve information from the internet, like a weather forecast, but it never crashed. T-Mobile starts rolling out Android 10 update to Galaxy Tab S6

Samsung started the rollout of Android 10 to its current-generation flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6 , three months ago. One month later, Verizon released the Android 10 update to the Galaxy Tab S6 on its network. Now, T-Mobile has released the Android 10 software update to the tablet on its network in the US . The new software update with firmware version  T867USQU2BTE1 brings Android 10 to the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T867U). It also features One UI 2.1 and the May 2020 Android security patch . The file size of the update is over 2.1GB, so we would advise you to use a Wi-Fi connection to download the new software. Although T-Mobile's changelog doesn't mention new features, the Android 10 update brings smoother animations and transitions, Google's gesture-based UI navigation, improved Dark Mode, tweaked color scheme and icons, and more. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. The issue — which our Cody Toombs aptly described as "like something changed in the Matrix" — is demonstrated in the video below: VIDEO Based on reports, a factory reset can't fix the problem, and it doesn't appear to be tied to any specific SKU.
