Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Flagship Launches On Amazon At $999

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium is now available for purchase in the United States, having debuted on Amazon. The device initially went up for pre-orders on the retailer's website on July 9 and has now been released in Chrome Black, priced at $999.99. Like Sony announced last month, Best Buy is also selling the Xperia XZ2 Premium as of yesterday.

The Japanese tech giant unveiled the Xperia XZ2 Premium back in April, unveiling a device with a 5.8-inch display featuring a 4K resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The handset's screen can show HDR content and offers improved brightness compared to the original XZ Premium, as well as lower power consumption. The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 845 from Qualcomm, includes 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash storage that can be expanded using a microSD card with a capacity of up to 400GB. The Xperia XZ2 Premium includes a 3,540mAh battery which supports Sony's proprietary STAMINA mode meant to offer maximum battery life. The Android flagship also supports the Qi wireless charging standard, comes with IP68-certified water and dust resistance, and features a dual SIM card slot.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium sports a twin-camera setup equipped with one 19-megapixel Motion Eye sensor and another 12-megapixel monochrome module. The rear cameras can capture 4K HDR content, while the main Motion Eye sensor is capable of recording 1080p super slow-motion at 960 frames per second. Meanwhile, Sony's new fusion image signaling processor Aube processes photographs captured by the device in real time, which should result in improved image quality, especially in low-light conditions. On the other hand, the front-facing camera sports a 13-megapixel sensor. The smartphone ships with Sony's custom implementation of Android 8.0 Oreo which is relatively close to stock Android in terms of overall performance.
