ZTE’s dual-screened Nubia X ditches the notch and the selfie camera

If 2018's smartphones with their notched displays have left you feeling a little underwhelmed, ZTE may have the perfect pick-me-up with its Nubia X handset that features dual screens, dual fingerprint readers, no selfie camera, and more importantly, no notch. The omission of the notch and the front-facing camera is made possible by the 5.1-inch secondary display on the rear of the phone that is virtually unnoticeable until it is activated. The lack of a notch and selfie camera also make it possible for an almost bezel-less front display which is pleasing to the eye.

The Nubia X has a 6.26-inch FHD+ front display while there is a 5.1-inch AMOLED display on the rear panel. As a phone with no notch, a skinny chin, and dual screens, you might expect the Nubia X might feature dual in-display fingerprint scanners, but you would be wrong. Instead, the phone has a fingerprint reader on both sides of the phone that makes it easy to unlock the device regardless of which display you want to use. It seems that besides acting as a viewfinder when using the rear cameras to take a selfie pic, the secondary display is also capable of doing pretty much everything that the larger primary panel can do.

You can check out how well the secondary screen is hidden in Ice Universe's tweet below:

Under the hood, you'll find 2018 flagship level specifications, as you can see in the table below.

It's a shame that the Nubia X will almost certainly be a phone that is exclusively available in China, but it's a clear sign that ZTE's love affair with wacky designs (remember the Axon M?) is still ongoing.

Has ZTE gone overboard in its quest for a notchless smartphone? Undoubtedly, but is the Nubia perhaps the most exciting, and left-field phone design of 2018? Possibly. What do you think of the Nubia X?
