IFA chief wants Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in Berlin

After the impressive launch and subsequent reception of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in New York last month, IFA chief wants Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in Berlin. Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, IFA Executive Director Jens Heithecker said that trade show would be a better place for Samsung to showcase its upcoming phablet.

Traditionally, Samsung used to unveil its Galaxy Note lineup of smartphones (including the Galaxy Note 4) at IFA in September every year. However, it unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 and the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 in August at events in New York. IFA chief now wants Samsung to return to the trade show for the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 8.

Heithecker also said that Samsung would have the biggest presence at IFA this year, but it is not known whether the Galaxy Note 8 would be a part of the consumer electronics giant’s product lineup at the trade show. The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to feature the same design as the Galaxy S8+, with a possible introduction of a dual-camera setup.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. ARCore apps are now available for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China

Google's ARCore apps can now run on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China. The apps are available in the Xiaomi App Store through a partnership with Google. A tweet from the Google AR & VR Twitter account announced the news today, although the exact ARCore apps that are now compatible with the Mi Mix 2S were not named. Google did say in the tweet that more partners for ARCore are coming soon. The Mi Mix 2S is the first phone from the manufacturer to support ARCore. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. The issue — which our Cody Toombs aptly described as "like something changed in the Matrix" — is demonstrated in the video below: VIDEO Based on reports, a factory reset can't fix the problem, and it doesn't appear to be tied to any specific SKU.
